wnt out for a fish fry and booze tonight after work with a couple of co-workers and my manager (gah, am I a total Sconi or what?). Taught the bartender how to play "Petals Around the Rose" (google it if you don't know what it is), and had my first jynnan tonnyx, er...gin and tonic. How come I never knew how good a gin and tonic was before tonight? It tasted civilized.

And, just for the record, yes, I do rather enjoy seeing how many obscure references I can cram into a single post...why do you ask?

Civilized, huh? I always thought it tasted like pine needles.

That'd be the juniper...from what I've been told, and what I tasted tonight (mid to upper range gin) there is that pine-taste, but there's lots of other botanical flavors, too. The cheap stuff tastes most strongly of the juniper.

But basically, gin is vodka with some botanical notes added, at least thus sayeth Alton.
