Frankly, I don't see why all the fanboys got their panties in a twist over this movie. The first three took their inspiration from the old Republic Serial adventure films of the thirties, this one took it's cue from the B-movies of the fifties. It was very much in the same spirit of homage as the first three. I really quite enjoyed it.
In fact, the only thing I remembered thinking "man, that's overdone" about was the makeup on the minister at the end of the movie. His lips should not have been that colorful, unless he was a strange transvestite minister. And since he was not played by Eddie Izzard, his lips should not have been that color.
