Wind Chill Warning

Statement as of 3:19 PM CST on January 15, 2009

... Wind chill warning remains in effect until 12 PM CST Friday...

A wind chill warning remains in effect until 12 PM CST Friday.

Below zero temperatures this evening will gradually fall to 10
below to 20 below zero by sunrise Friday over southeast Wisconsin
and 15 below to 25 below zero over south central Wisconsin. These
bitterly cold temperatures coupled with west winds of 5 to 15 mph
will create dangerous wind chills of 28 below to 38 below zero.

A wind chill warning is issued when the combination of very cold
air temperatures and wind will create dangerously low wind chill
values of 35 degrees below zero or colder for 3 hours or longer.

These conditions will result in frostbite... and could lead to
hypothermia or death... if proper precautions are not taken. If
you must venture outdoors... wear several layers of clothing and
cover all exposed skin. Frostbite can occur in as little as
10 minutes. If clothes become wet... they should immediately be
changed for dry ones.

I'm making tea and planning to just curl up with a book for the rest of the night. Tomorrow, I venture out to be noble and nice and altruistic and junk, and give blood. Which means I'll actually have to get up at a decent hour. Horrors.

80 degrees in CA and I have a head cold. WTF.

must be those Santa Ana winds blowing crap up your nose. :)

True fact: I can't donate blood because of Mad Cow Disease. (I lived in the UK for two years...seriously, it's a reason why they won't accept my blood...I got my gallon pin just prior to them setting that rule).

Stupid BSE/KJD. Stupid prions.

Every so often, I check back at the Red Cross website to see if they've removed that rule. I'm hardcore about getting a free cookie every now and then ;-)

I can't donate because if a normal person got my Warfarin-rich blood, he/she'd keel over. Not a pleasant thought. Happy bloods-giving to you!
