on cocktails for mothers who like wine coolers...

Mom's never been much of a drinker, which is not a bad thing...but she's been having issues drifting off to meet Nemo in Slumberland for the last couple years, and I got to thinking perhaps in lieu of the prescription sleep aids that make her cuckoo-bananas-loopy, we may get her a little tipsy and see if that does the trick...

After much experimentation, as she can detect a ridiculously small amount of booze in a concoction, and declares it to be too burny, I've come upon a nice drink for's basically a modified hot toddy, but using bourbon instead of true whisk(e)y. For those who don't like the taste of hard liquor, I offer this guide.

1 oz bourbon
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 drop clove oil (optional, but helpful. Alternately, you can add a single clove, but fish it out after it steeps a bit.)
hot water

Add the first four ingredients to a mug or Irish coffee glass, fill with hot water, stir to dissolve the honey, and sip.
