New favorite cocktail of the moment...

It's a variant on a Manhattan called a "Jumbo," presumably after P.T. Barnum's elephant that could drink a quart of whiskey at a time, was killed by a train in Ontario, had its body donated to the New York Museum of Natural History, and went from thence to Tufts University, where it was displayed until it burned up in a fire in 1975 (though its heart had gone to Cornell). Despite the backstory, the drink itself is really quite simple. Just stir equal measures of rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and dry vermouth (I go with 1 1/2 ounces of each, but that's me) with ice, along with a dash each of Angostura and orange bitters, and strain into your glass.

One of these days I should start an honest to goodness cocktail blog. I'd just need to figure a way to monetize it. I suppose taking pretty pictures would help, though. I'd need a little light-box for that, I expect, as well as some fancier glassware.

Any geniuses out there feel like trying to simultaneously turn a profit and subsidize my drinking? I promise to not have more than the equivalent of two full size cocktails a night, and I can write quite evocative prose, even after drinking!
