not that you all care, but here's what I think of the iPad.

first of all, as some friends said on Twitter, it's going to be very confusing for Minnesotans. "Oh, are you gettin' an [aipɒd]?" "Nooo, I'm getting an [aipæd]!" (For those of you who don't speak International Phonetic Alphabet, all that was fuckin' hysterical.)

Ok, on to substance. I will readily admit to being drawn in by the "ooh, shiny!" factor. I like the size of the display, I very much like the iBooks functionality, and I like that iPod Touch apps I've already purchased will be playable. I like the integrated microphone, though I'm a little disappointed there's no camera (although, if it's a lap device, it's been pointed out it would give even Twiggy a double chin shooting from below the face), and I'm wondering how the image-out stuff will work for, say, the iWork suite and Keynote in particular.

What I'm waiting to see is 1) what changes the iPhone OS 4.0 will bring, and 2) what magazine publishers will do with it. I'd also love to see an app that lets you check books out of your local library system. Mine currently does this with Adobe Digital Editions, but that's really kludge-y, and I can't take them with me on my iPod, thanks to Adobe's proprietary DRM. I'd love to see some sort of ePub file that can have my checked out book "expire" after a few weeks. I'd be all over that.

So I'm adopting a wait-and-see attitude towards this new shiny thing. I'm pretty much predisposed to like it, but I'm wondering what new functionality, if any, will be added in the near future, before committing to buying it.

Also, 3G only through AT&T again? Lamesauce.

I have decided that from here on out, I shall refer to former president George Dubya Bush as "President Ethelred the Unready." It makes me giggle…

I really need to make an excursion to Chicago one of these days...perhaps a little weekend jaunt down to Kenosha and grabbing the Metra may work out…

So Andrew and Emily are hitched, which is awesome, and I'm home having braved the roads of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin over the last…
